Our Roots Run Deep in St. Augustine’s Surf Culture
The Surf Stop is a shop built with love by the Zappone Family. You can find the shop tucked in the heart of St. Augustine beach on the corner of F street. The Stop and all their community initiatives are a true dream come true for the Zap family. Kayla (owner, creator, and curator) got up in front of her kindergarten class at 5 years old when asked what she wanted to be when she grew up and proclaimed she was going to open a surf shop in St.Augustine- and 25 years later, here we are! Kayla has been a part of the surf community her whole life, perched on the nose of her father’s longboard while still in diapers, working in and out of surf shops and the industry since she was 15. You can find Kay Zap floating around the shop most days making messes or out back on her log.

You can always find him behind the counter on Sundays ready to talk boards, fins, and story. Catch Mr. Rick surfing out back on F Street!
Alec Zappone can be found next door most days in the WSMS Camp classroom, developing some of the coolest grom programs in town. Alec offers private coaching/lessons, an after-school surf program and a Surf-Art-Music camp every summer that aims to teach the younger generation the roots and culture behind surfing, which the Zappone family believes is driven by creativity and self-expression. You can catch Alec Zap ripping out back or at Vilano when he's not traveling to OBX or Mexico!
